Responsibilities:

  • Work with Lilly scientists and Automation vendors to evaluate, implement and validate novel systems, instruments and technologies to facilitate Lilly’s Next Generation Research goals.
  • Modify existing systems, instruments, methods and software to meet evolving needs.
  • Ensure that common automation equipment is accurately maintained and in good working order. This includes stand-alone liquid handlers (BioMek, Lynx, Echo), plate washers/dispensers, protein quantification instruments, colony/plaque pickers, sequencing instruments etc., as well as robotic systems.
  • Install, maintain, QC, solve issues, build methods/scripts, and train users on instruments.
  • Work collaboratively with protein discovery, engineering and expression groups at the San Diego site to optimize research efficiencies through implementation of automation process improvements and novel technologies.

Basic Requirements:

  • BS or MS in Bioengineering, Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Computer Science or similar field with 5+ years of experience to include at least 1 year of relevant experience, preferably in a biotech/pharmaceutical company or an automation provider.

Additional Preferences:

  • Programming experience using Python, Java, C# or VB.NET is required.
  • Experience in the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting and scripting for liquid handlers, dispensers, plate washers, plate readers, Octet, etc. preferred
  • Experience with scheduling, operation, training and troubleshooting of fully integrated robotic systems.
  • Expertise with Green Button Go scheduling software is a plus.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills including the ability to work with other automation engineers, as well as non-automation scientists.
  • Excellent organizational skills, as exemplified by an interest in clear record-keeping, and data analysis, as well as the ability to prioritize work across multiple projects.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
